Internationally Renowned Western Writer, Author, and Speaker D. J. Bishop creates living, breathing characters, then adds authentic western dialogue and enough action and excitement to keep a reader turning the pages. His heroes and heroines are all of a place and time when work was hard and living sometimes even harder. The place was the old west, or as some folks called it, the great frontier.

For much of his life DJ Bishop has lived the cowboy way. He knows first-hand what its like to be horseback from before sunup to well after sundown. The unmistakable taste of coffee boiled in a tin pot, and the smell of bacon frying over a campfire. Many a night, he's rolled out his bedroll and crawled in, with only the glow of the moon for light, and the millions of stars above for a ceiling. Granted, his cowboy life has been easy in comparison to the life of the cowboys of the mid eighteen-hundreds, and in knowing that, he works hard to bring out their real-life struggles in his Books and Short Stories.
DJ Bishop was born to the cowboy way of life. But he didn't start writing until he was forty- seven years old. His work can be found at all major Book Stores including Borders Books and Books A Million or you can buy his books online at Amazon Books and Half Price Books. The truth is, he's nothing more than an old over-the-hill cowboy doing what he likes to do -- write about the old west and the cowboys who made it what it was. He's a member of Lake Worth Writers' Club and Western Writers of America, home of the prestigious SpurAward, American Western Magazine, Cowboy.com, The American West, Avalon Books, and True West Magazine. Other pages on this site include; Author, - Books, - Reviews, - Links, - Events, - Helpers, Ordering Information and Lake Worth Writers' Club Member Page.
It wasn’t until ten years after surviving a severe heart attack in 1986 that his father-in-law (Major Guy G. Randall) noticed D. J. was having trouble with depression and knowing he needed to do something to get his mind back on track, suggested he try his hand at writing a story. It took a while for D. J. to decide he would give it a shot. He did not start his first book until the summer of 1998 and finished it nine-hundred pages later in 2000. Since then he has written eleven Western novels of which three have been published, several short stories, and a children’s book. D. J. owes his life to writing, for if not for following his father-in-law’s advice, the heavy hand of depression would have surely taken its toll. He would like to come share his amazing story with the members of your organization. He speaks of living after a heart attack that took much of his memory, depression that almost took his life, and the art of writing. He gives first-hand advice on the do’s and don’ts of writing a story, putting your idea on paper, the much talked-about editing aspect, and choosing a publisher for your work. D. J. Lives with his wife Carolyn and their two dogs, Pugsly and Nikki in Lake Worth, Texas.
