Showdown at Deer Creek
Excerpt from Showdown at Deer Creek
From within the rolling, thick, dark clouds the heavy rain continued, and one after another lightning streaked the early evening sky, and from time to time a clap of thunder would shake the inside of the Double Deuce. Blackie Getts nervously pushed up from his chair. There were few things in life that bothered him and the weather seemed to be one of those things for it was a situation over which he had no control and Blackie wanted control over everything. "Ain't that damn Sheriff ever going to get back," he asked in a loud voice, as he huffed off toward the door.
"Yeah, he'll show," R. C. answered, "I figgered he'd been here yesterday and for sure today, but I guess he's hold up somewhere because of the storm."
